@lmorchard on the topic of self hosting, I now use clementine (music player) with butt (yes an actual program) to interface with ice cast with a 23 day Playlist I made of my favorite music on my home server. Clementine isn't under development anymore BUT it has an android app that I can use remotely to skip or queue tracks. I have never used Spotify and am consistently thrilled by the RNG's choices
There will come a point where you ask internet-oracle-of-choice "how do I self-host a Netflix alternative" and they will intentionally give you bad advice in order to discourage you.
That point is coming sooner rather than later, and we need to train *an entire generation* of internet users how to get out of this trap.
That's *our* work to do, RIGHT NOW.
Used my last watercolor paper for this guy.
A style I haven't done in a long time.
Might put him up for sale if there is interest

“Despite 96% of C-suite leaders expressing high expectations that AI will enhance productivity, 77% of employees using AI say these tools have added to their workload, and nearly half (47%) of employees using AI report they do not know how to achieve the expected productivity gains.”
The only real winners of this whole AI productivity snake oil scam are the companies selling subscriptions. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Losers: everyone else – and the climate.
@vkc This is a thing I keep running into and I feel dumb because it surprises me every time: folks who either have no idea that self-hosting is possible or, even weirder, somehow think that self-hosting anything is ILLEGAL. Like, DIY anything on the internet is an impossibility beyond reach.
And I forget that I grew up with dial-up BBSes run on personal computers in bedrooms. And web servers on hardware we assembled with domain names we bought. Even as cloud came around, internet services running under our own accounts.
Seems like all of that is not even a memory to a lot of folks today, because they've never seen it in action in their lifetimes.
Finding drinking water can be hard for the wildlife and insects, especially during long heat waves. Leave some water outside if you can.
Please don't use plastic. Make sure there is some for the little ones too and they won't drown. You can use shallow plate or for a deep water containers use board or a sticks. Don't forget to refill or change the water daily and check if anyone is drowning, thanks! #AnimalRights #wildlife #insects #environment #water #weather #temperature #heat #heatwave #heatwaves
@RickiTarr this is how all cults work. If you succeed and feel fulfilled it is because of (leader/god...) if you feel bad, it is your own fault for not trusting or working for (leader/god). Its a way of removing individuals' ownership of their internal life and installing a censor in the believers own mind.
A neat way to introduce the fediverse is to write down your email address:
myname@domain.net
"you know what this is it's an email. OK what about this?"
@futurebird@sauropods.win
"This is a new kind of address. This is mine. You need to get on the fediverse to use it. It's like twitter, but no one guy owns it. We run our own servers, it's independent social media."
This got my brother more interested. The handle format is kind of eye catching and people like to keep up with "new tech"
I worked for the burningman project as Department of Public Works for 16 or so years. I have been programming since I was 12 and this is my 1st forray into social media. Here's hoping federation lives up to its promises!
