for the love of the internet: DO NOT USE TINY URL OR LINK SHORTENERS UNLESS YOU OWN THE SERVERS AND PLAN TO KEEP THEM RUNNING BEYOND YOUR DEATH
the amount of dead links on my pre-2015 tweets it absolutely painful. there's no way to salvage any of it: Twitter won't include the actual URL in the data dump they give you.
i know people use them for metrics but for what you're paying them, get a blog with ActivityPub (ohai Wordpress) and push your toots from there. voilá! now you have metrics
Burningman dpw stuff: I made an AMA

Never done it before and not looking for praise. But I have poured a bit of emotional stuff out that may or may not be interesting
Chess Grandmaster Anna Muzychuk refuses to play in Saudi Arabia and says: "In a few days, I will lose two world titles, back to back." Because I decided not to go to Saudi Arabia. I refuse to play by special rules, to wear abaya, to be accompanied by a man so I can leave the hotel, so I don't feel like a second class person.
#saudiarabia #equalrights
@StillIRise1963 it gets more radical the more I look at it

"I'm suspicious of any plan to fix unfairness that starts wtih 'step one, dismantle the entire system and replace it with a better one,' especially if you can't do anything else until step one is done. Of all the ways that people kid themselves into doing nothing, that one is the most self-serving."

I struggle with the notion that tech companies do not understand consent.
IMHO, they do understand consent.
They understand that seeking consent - freely-given, specific, informed consent - won't get them where they want to be.
To my mind, that's not a misunderstanding of consent, but a determination to avoid consent.
That's typically why one sees language of "choice" and "control" and "transparency" to describe an opt-out regime.
They're not confused. It's by design.
Jon Shaw nailing the Butthole Surfers reissue. “Somehow, someway, Rembrandt Pussyhorse sounds like it could have come out yesterday on some currently über-hip, punk-adjacent underground label (say, Feel It Records from Cincinnati, or London’s La Vida Es un Mus).” https://dustedmagazine.tumblr.com/post/744847642664828928/butthole-surfers-rembrandt-pussyhorse-matador #ButtholeSurfers #matador #punk #music
#Stract is a new, #opensource, #nonprofit #search engine. It has a lot of interesting functions. For example, users can exclude known copycat sites from search queries, focus on indie blogs, or do fediverse search only.
You can test Stract over here:

And check out the repo on #GitHub:

TIL the most successful pirate of all time was a Chinese woman. She became so powerful that she negotiated with the Chinese government to retire in exchange for not being prosecuted and was able to keep a fleet of ships.

People can’t even grasp the concept of a billionaire. It just feels “rich” to them. But put it in terms of time:
1 million seconds is 12 days
1 billion seconds is 32 years
That’s what an obscene amount of money a billion dollars is.
I worked for the burningman project as Department of Public Works for 16 or so years. I have been programming since I was 12 and this is my 1st forray into social media. Here's hoping federation lives up to its promises!
