The tent is big enough to hold everyone's priors if we're still gonna fight. Letting it get smaller is a sign of giving ground. Not in my opinion wise at the moment.

I'm not saying the disputes are silly, they aren't. They are serious and deep. I'm saying they are foolish. Tactically and strategically unwise. A gift to the worst human beings alive who seek to do the worst they can as broadly, deeply, competently, and quickly as possible.

So, don't sweat the big stuff. Toes to the fucking line.

Then they came for Muslims and Jews, and still, I kept quiet—because I was neither Muslim nor Jewish.

This man told you exactly who he is and how he would rule. He broadcast his cruelty, his ignorance, and his drive to wield government power for revenge, yet you voted for him anyway. You’ll get what you deserve. But the rest of us? We did nothing to deserve what’s going to be coming at us from our own government.

@philip_cardella my friend was literally murdered last Saturday in reno be a white supremacist. This real. We had our wake yesterday and it was a rule we didn't look at results. Grieving twice is hard.

Listen. You should be scared shitless. You should be almost panicked. Fascists love to murder random people just to show they can. They love the spectacle and the violence.

But what I learned in grad school on fascism was, among other things, is that fascism is more or less colonialism come home. That should terrify you.

It also should give you hope. People under functional colonial rule resist all the time. And they still find ways to live and to live fully.

OK #Joe is time to use some of those #Presidential powers for which you are unaccountable.

I think 6-ish weeks of that, then resign and let #Harris be the #47th #President. You know #TheFutureGuy has sunk a lot of his stolen money into "47" merch.

Then #KamalaHarris can appoint #TimWalz or anyone as #VP to preside over the #JointSession to count electoral votes.

I'm sure more #shenanigans can be achieved...

I'm Russian living in Russia. I was 5 when Putin was 'elected'. I'm 30 now. I know that feeling of hopelessness very well. You should never surrender. Autocrats of the world are counting on you being down and depoliticized because all of this. Don't give them an easy win. Always fight, no matter how bad situation seems.

I cannot state how important it is (it always was) not to cede power in advance to fascists. Don't voluntarily anticipate what they want and give it to them...that's a factor in what got us here. It's more important than ever to not cede power.

Do not think this is just about national politics. You academics especially need to resist university administration.

Because collapsing in advance is also demonstrating to others that you're collaborating, that there is no resistance.

In re: some conversations I've had in other places (real and online)

A lot of people in leftist circles seem to begin conversations on step 8 and are surprised when the person they're talking to isn't receptive.

Ya gotta start on step 1.

@TechConnectify i agree. My wife's parents are far from us. I've managed to convince them I'm good despite my politics. We can reach these people by being kind and emotionally intelligent, meeting them where they are and looking for the good and kindness within them. Its the only way to turn this ship around. Small kindness and understanding are the absolute opposite of fascism.

We have so much work to do and the only thing that gets me through it is that I’m side by side with people who have done it before.

When we're under stress, our adrenal glands produce extra cortisol. That's what makes us feel wired at night when our minds are racing and we can't sleep.

A good low tech, low cost way to lower cortisol is to add heat to the middle back (over the adrenal glands). The heat is soothing (for most people, ymmv) and the increased blood flow normalizes cortisol production.

A warm bath, a heat mat, an electric blanket or a heat pack all work.

If you need to spool down to sleep, give it a try.
