I suck at talking, I mumble.... but thunderbird makes is super easy to do end to end encryption! It might be scary soon with some political folks claiming they will jail their political opponents....
Next Monday (November 27), I'm at the #Toronto Metro Reference Library with Facebook whistleblower #FrancesHaugen for an event called "Who Is Watching Big Tech?":

After OpenAI's blowup, it seems pretty clear that 'AI safety' isn't a real thing: https://gizmodo.com/ai-safety-openai-sam-altman-ouster-back-microsoft-1851038439

As a quick reminder: AI doomerism is also #AIhype. The idea that synthetic text extruding machines are harbingers of AGI that is on the verge of combusting into consciousness and then turning on humanity is unscientific nonsense. 2/
At the same time, it serves to suggest that the software is powerful, even magically so: if the "AI" could take over the world, it must be something amazing. 3/
If someone recommends an account to follow and it looks blank to you, it probably isn't actually blank! It probably just looks that way when you view it from your server.
If you follow the account, future posts will start showing up on your server.
It is confusing, but there are really good reasons why it happens. You can read more about it (including how to check what a profile really looks like, and how to prevent your own profile looking blank) here:

@marcrr @pluralistic True. I left X and I feel that I’m more attuned to what is going on in the online world than ever before. I’ve been the Boomer explaining Enshittification to Gen-Xers and Millennials at the office and their eyes get wide at the revelation that’s there’s a word and a nefarious purpose for what they’re experiencing online.
I worked for the burningman project as Department of Public Works for 16 or so years. I have been programming since I was 12 and this is my 1st forray into social media. Here's hoping federation lives up to its promises!
