There are certainly some areas where machine learning (note, I'm not calling it AI) has it's uses. Medical research springs to mind. But a ubiquitous AI assistance rolled into all our products? Why? It's just using too much power, too many resources, and for what ? Sparkling autocarrot.
Encoding the worst of our society in a bit stream. Exacerbating inequality, prejudice, and hate.
In comp sci there's a term. GIGO. Garbage in. Garbage out.

“To want to be better than we are is admirable, but to believe that we are better than we are is fatal to the ability to get a handle on why so many bad things happen here.”

To be clear. Landing on the moon is a very complex task, and no one wants these missions to fail. But in turning over so much of space exploration to private companies, we need to be aware that private enterprise deals very differently with information dissemination. It is not like the transparency we have become accustom to with government run missions.
This is not a good thing. Particularly when the missions, as this one was, are largely funded by NASA.

American mathematician Katherine Johnson died #OTD in 2020.
She calculated & analyzed the flight paths of many spacecraft during her more than three decades with the U.S. space program. Her work helped send astronauts to the Moon. She earned a reputation for mastering complex manual calculations and helped pioneer the use of computers to perform the tasks. The agency noted her "historical role as one of the first African-American women to work as a NASA scientist".
As previously mentioned, here's what Einstein had to say about segregation:
"There is a separation of white people and colored people in the United States. That separation is not a disease of colored people. It is a disease of white people. I do not intend to be quiet about it."
For the last 20 years of his career, Einstein declined almost all public speaking engagements, except those at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
This photo was taken at Lincoln University, an HBCU.
Born in 1906, computer scientist Grace Hopper invented the first compiler for computer programming language & was among the first programmers of the Harvard Mk1 computer.
Hopper popularized the idea of machine-independent programming languages & paved the way to develop COBOL (an early high-level programming language). She originated the term "bug" to describe computer glitches & became a celebrated Rear Admiral in the US Navy. https://news.yale.edu/2017/02/10/grace-murray-hopper-1906-1992-legacy-innovation-and-service #science #history
